Dear Grand View Families,
We can’t believe that we are entering the last half of the 2023-2024 school year! Our commitment to doing great work with our students remains unwavering. Our dedicated team is geared up to provide engaging and meaningful learning experiences, fostering a love for knowledge and curiosity in every child. Together, let’s continue to inspire a passion for learning that goes beyond the classroom.
Building a strong and supportive community is at the heart of Grand View Elementary. We believe that the collaboration between parents, teachers, and students is fundamental to our success. Your involvement and support contribute immensely to the positive environment that defines our school. Let’s continue to work together to create a nurturing space where every child feels valued and empowered.

Parent/Teacher Conferences are Coming!
The dates for the upcoming in-person conferences are February 5, 7, and 13. Our goal is to have 100% our of families meet with their child’s teacher on one of these three nights. Please contact your child’s teacher or the front office if you need assistance scheduling a conference.
If parents would like to schedule a conference with the Specials Team, please let us know via email so that we may work with you to schedule a time.

One of our favorite events of the year is the Tribute to Teachers award celebration sponsored by St. Vrain Valley Schools Education Foundation. We love it because it recognizes and honors our outstanding teachers for their excellence in teaching.

Kindergarten Jump Start
Hello 24-25 Kindergarten Families!
Grand View Elementary would like to invite you to Kindergarten Jump Start on Wednesday, February 21st. We will hold an information session in the gym and then proceed to tour the kindergarten classrooms. Kindergarten teachers will be available to answer all your questions! We would love for you and your incoming kindergartener to attend.
We will be offering two identical sessions starting at 5pm and 5:45pm in our school gym- pick which time works for you and your family. Feel free to invite any families you know that will have a kindergarten student next school year!

St. Vrain Inclement Weather Information
Friday Food Bags
Grand View Elementary is partnering with a local volunteer network to provide “Friday Food Bags” for families in need. Bags will be sent home each Friday with a variety of items such as: cereal, milk, juice, snacks, etc. There is NO COST to participate in this program and all are welcome. If you are interested in participating please complete the following Google Form. For further questions you can contact Emily Pacheco (pacheco_emily@svvsd.org).
The Student Council will be sponsoring a Share the Love campaign for the month of February. It is like kindness tag. Each class will be responsible for doing a random act of kindness for another class. Then that class will pass on another act of kindness along. It will be a domino effect of love throughout our building!
CLASSROOM NEWS
PE NEWS – Happy February everyone. This month the intermediate grade levels will be finishing up their Hockey units. The emphasis is on stick handling and basic passing. We will be working our way up to game situations as the week progresses. After hockey, we will get into handball activities. For the primary level, students are participating in team work games, with an emphasis on communication. After we finish this unit, the students will again practice on hand-eye coordination skills. Emphasizing throwing mechanics and catching on the move.
Reminders for Families:
- Please remind your students they are not allowed to use electronic devices to call you during school hours. We would like them to come to the office to call parents, if necessary. This will help us to provide the right amount of support for your student. All cell phones need to be kept in their backpacks
- If at any time you need to get a hold of your student, please call the front office and we will contact your student during school hours.
- If you are picking up your student during school hours, you must present a photo ID. Please remember to report your child’s absence or tardy to 303-702-8000 or email: [email protected]

Attendance Matters!!
We will be sending out monthly attendance letters to families with attendance concerns. This is to make you aware of your student’s absences. We know that attendance has a direct relationship with academic performance. Last year we had 102 students (26.09%) who were chronically absent from school. This means they missed 10 or more days of school. Regardless of days being marked excused or unexcused, they still count towards a student being chronically absent. Therefore, we need your help! We will be excusing up to 10 days of absence. After 10 days, all days will be unexcused unless you provide a doctor’s note, get approval from principal or if there is a family emergency (funeral, injury, etc.). Please schedule vacations during our school breaks and send students to school if they are not sick. School doors open at 8:50 am, and school starts promptly at 9:00 am. Please read Colorado’s state law addressing school attendance below. Thank you in advance for your help in increasing our school attendance!
The Colorado School Attendance Law of 1963 (CRS 22-33-101, et. Seq.) requires that every child between the ages of six (6) and seventeen (17) attend public school or an otherwise approved educational program. A student that has four (4) unexcused absences in any one month or (10) unexcused absences in any school year is considered habitually truant. The School District has a statutory obligation to refer cases of habitual truancy to the Juvenile Court of the 17th Judicial District. In addition, the legislation encourages each board of education to establish attendance procedures for identifying students who are chronically absent (missing more than 10% of the instructional time) regardless of whether the absence is excused or unexcused.
Positive Behavior Support System (PBIS)
We are excited to continue with our Bison Boutique this year. Our students earn Bison Bucks when they follow the HERD expectations. Throughout the year, students save their Bison Bucks to buy items from the Bison Boutique. We are in need of volunteers to help with our store and preparation for PBIS. STUDENTS PERSONAL PROPERTY
Problems often arise when items are brought to school that are hazardous or interfere with school procedures and instruction. Personal objects of value are to be brought to school only during special occasions when the teacher has given permission. Playground equipment is provided by the school. Toys and items such as stuffed animals, pokemon cards, skateboards, scooters, roller blades, radios, and other electronic devices are not permitted at school. Cell phones and smartwatches are to be turned off and kept in backpacks during school hours. The school will not be responsible for any loss or damage to personal property.
Hug-N-Go Lane
When dropping your students off in the Hug-N-Go Lane, we need families to pull through to the south end of the lane. This will help alleviate the traffic on Aggregate Blvd and help students get to school on time. Please have your students ready with backpacks and other belongings so they can just be dropped off. If you want to get out of the car and help your students, please park in the front parking lot and help them get ready. The HUG-N-GO Lane needs to be quick and easy for all families. Also, please pay attention to the cars trying to get out of the HUG-N-GO Lane so we can allow others to go through the lane. We appreciate your attention to this matter and continued support to keep our students and families safe.
