Principal’s Letter
Dear Grand View Families,
We hope this newsletter finds you well and filled with gratitude, as we are today. We want to take a moment to express our heartfelt thanks for the incredible support you have shown during our recent Bison Stampede fundraiser. Your dedication and enthusiasm have made a significant impact on our school, and we are truly appreciative.
Our students have been working diligently in school, showcasing their commitment to their education. It’s inspiring to see how they are not only growing academically but also becoming well-rounded individuals who value community, hard work, and determination. Your support in the Bison Stampede fundraiser allows us to provide them with the best educational experience possible, and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts.
We want to remind you that your involvement is always welcome, not just during fundraising events but throughout the entire school year. Whether you have a few hours to spare or want to participate in school activities, your presence and support are invaluable to us. Volunteering is a fantastic way to stay engaged with your child’s education and build a stronger bond with our Grand View community. If you’re interested, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your student’s teacher or me.
Once again, thank you for your unwavering support, dedication, and the love you show for Grand View Elementary. Together, we can continue to nurture an environment where our students can thrive and grow into the exceptional individuals we know they can become.
With graditude,
Francesca Craver, Principal

DRAMA CLUB NEWS
Rehearsals are underway for the inaugural year of GVE’s Drama Club! Our production of The Wizard of Oz is filled with 4th and 5th grade actors and crew. We are excited for our journey down the Yellow Brick Road!
Our Bison Cafe Holiday Meal for students this year is on Thursday November 9th, and our department is NOT able to provide enough food for outside adults (families, parents, grandparents, etc.) Since we are feeding all students for free this year, we were only able to obtain enough Turkey and side dishes for all the students in our district, and not additional adults or parents (even though they would be paying for their own meals, we simply cannot get enough food for all.) Thanks for your understanding!
CLASSROOM NEWS
PE – This month the students have pushed themselves to work on different aspects of physical fitness. In second through fifth grade, the students participated in fitness testing. Each class went through four different tests that focused on their strength, flexibility, and aerobic capacities. The results of the test are being used to work on individual goal setting in a fitness activity. The first grade students went through locomotor testing where students needed to differentiate between walking, running, skipping, galloping, sliding, and hopping. Finally, the kindergarten students worked a lot on balancing and chase and flee games (tagging games). This next month we will begin our bowling unit, focusing on proper throwing technique and for the intermediate students, how to score a bowling game. We will then be moving into our climbing unit towards the end of November.
4th Grade has been hard at work! We have been multiplying big digit numbers in math and learning about Colorado geography in social studies. On the horizon – are salt dough maps! In addition to reading about scientists, we’ve been researching like scientists, too. Our animal infographics and animal structure models were a complete success at our showcase!
Santa Cops deadline is coming!
The Santa Cops Program is an ongoing effort to provide gifts and necessities to underprivileged children during the holiday season. The funding for this program is limited and intended only for those that are truly in need. All referrals will be reviewed and undergo an approval process; not all applicants will qualify. Once referrals are processed and approved, the different police agencies will distribute gifts to children in Mid-December 2023. If you are interested in applying, please use the following link to apply online: https://www.frederickco.gov/226/Community-Programs
If you would prefer a paper copy of this application please contact Mrs. Beard ([email protected]). The deadline to apply is Friday, November 17.
Our thanks this upcoming Thanksgiving extends to many people: Bison Brigade for supporting our school in so many ways and for being a link between the school and the community, our dedicated and dependable parents, our excellent certified and classified school staff for their passion for learning and love of children, and the fabulous children of Grand View Elementary for letting us be such an important part of their lives.
Enjoy the upcoming Thanksgiving break with your friends and families while remaining safe!

Attendance Matters!!
We will be sending out monthly attendance letters to families with attendance concerns. This is to make you aware of your student’s absences. We know that attendance has a direct relationship with academic performance. Last year we had 102 students (26.09%) who were chronically absent from school. This means they missed 10 or more days of school. Regardless of days being marked excused or unexcused, they still count towards a student being chronically absent. Therefore, we need your help! We will be excusing up to 10 days of absence. After 10 days, all days will be unexcused unless you provide a doctor’s note, get approval from principal or if there is a family emergency (funeral, injury, etc.). Please schedule vacations during our school breaks and send students to school if they are not sick. School doors open at 8:50 am, and school starts promptly at 9:00 am. Please read Colorado’s state law addressing school attendance below. Thank you in advance for your help in increasing our school attendance!
The Colorado School Attendance Law of 1963 (CRS 22-33-101, et. Seq.) requires that every child between the ages of six (6) and seventeen (17) attend public school or an otherwise approved educational program. A student that has four (4) unexcused absences in any one month or (10) unexcused absences in any school year is considered habitually truant. The School District has a statutory obligation to refer cases of habitual truancy to the Juvenile Court of the 17th Judicial District. In addition, the legislation encourages each board of education to establish attendance procedures for identifying students who are chronically absent (missing more than 10% of the instructional time) regardless of whether the absence is excused or unexcused.
Positive Behavior Support System (PBIS)
We are excited to continue with our Bison Boutique this year. Our students earn Bison Bucks when they follow the HERD expectations. Throughout the year, students save their Bison Bucks to buy items from the Bison Boutique. We are in need of volunteers to help with our store and preparation for PBIS. Please sign up if you are able to help. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0948A5A623A3FDC25-bison1

Hug-N-Go Lane
When dropping your students off in the Hug-N-Go Lane, we need families to pull through to the south end of the lane. This will help alleviate the traffic on Aggregate Blvd and help students get to school on time. Please have your students ready with backpacks and other belongings so they can just be dropped off. If you want to get out of the car and help your students, please park in the front parking lot and help them get ready. The HUG-N-GO Lane needs to be quick and easy for all families. Also, please pay attention to the cars trying to get out of the HUG-N-GO Lane so we can allow others to go through the lane. We appreciate your attention to this matter and continued support to keep our students and families safe.
