Principal’s Letter
Dear Families,
As we approach the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) state testing, we want to ensure that our students feel confident and prepared. CMAS is an important assessment that helps measure student learning and guides instruction to support their growth for students in grades 3rd-5th.
How You Can Help Your Child Prepare:
✅ Ensure a Good Night’s Sleep – A well-rested brain is ready to focus!
✅ Provide a Healthy Breakfast – Nutritious meals fuel thinking and concentration.
✅ Encourage a Positive Attitude – Confidence goes a long way in reducing test anxiety.
✅ Arrive On Time – Being punctual helps students start the day stress-free.
Testing will take place April 8th-April 25th. 3rd-5th grades will all have ELA and math assessments and 5th grade will also test in science. Please avoid scheduling appointments during this time to allow your child to do their best.
Kindergarten through 2nd grade will start their end of the year assessments in May.
Thank you for your continued support in helping our students shine! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.
Respectfully,
Francesca Craver

Preschool Staff Spotlight

Grand View’s Preschool Team: Laura & Shiloh!
At Grand View Elementary, Laura and Shiloh each lead their own preschool classrooms, but their collaboration plays a key role in giving students a strong start to their education. They regularly plan and share ideas — both formally and informally — to create a supportive and engaging environment that meets the needs of every student.
Their approach is hands-on and adaptable. They co-create task boxes to support different learning styles and adjust activities to challenge students at the right level. Some may work on CVC word bingo instead of alphabet bingo, while others focus on addition rather than simple counting to build on their skills.
Beyond academics, they emphasize classroom community. Their students follow three simple yet meaningful rules: be safe, be helpful and be a good friend — values that create a space where children feel connected and supported. They also introduce Sean Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, encouraging students to be proactive, listen to others and collaborate.
For Laura and Shiloh, preschool is a time of discovery and growth. “We love the creativity that comes with planning and teaching preschool,” they said. “It’s a magical time as students are filled with curiosity and excitement for learning. Seeing their faces light up when they learn something new is simply the best.”
Their dedication and teamwork make Grand View’s preschool classrooms a place where young learners build confidence, curiosity and a love of learning.
Kindergarten News
Spring is here and that means kindergarten will once again be hatching chicks! Students will learn all about animal needs and the life cycle of a chicken. Incubators will be on display for all Grand View students to watch the process- we are expecting our eggs to hatch the week of April 15th. The chicks will spend a few days at school and then go to live on a nearby local farm.

Reminders for Families
- Please remind your students they are not allowed to use electronic devices to call you during school hours. We would like them to come to the office to call parents, if necessary. This will help us to provide the right amount of support for your student. All cell phones need to be kept in their backpacks
- If at any time you need to get a hold of your student, please call the front office and we will contact your student during school hours.
- If you are picking up your student during school hours, you must present a photo ID. Please remember to report your child’s absence or tardy to 303-702-8000 or email: [email protected]
- Our office staff is always available to answer your questions- 303-702-8000
- Jo Jo Charles, Principal’s Secretary, [email protected]
- Emily Pacheco, Registrar/Attendance Clerk, [email protected]
- Traci Montgomery, Health Clerk, [email protected]
ADDITIONAL REMINDERS
We have so few precious minutes with your children; we want to stay focused on their learning every moment! Therefore, to minimize classroom disruption, please keep in mind the following practices:
- Items such as lunches, coats, etc., must be dropped off at the front office.
- Office staff will then notify the teacher, who will have the student pick up the item when it is least disruptive to their learning (but in time for lunch!)
- Tardy students take their passes and head straight to the classroom as quickly as possible. Parents need to come into the building to sign the student in.
- After-school messages for students should be called into the office by 3:15 pm and reserved for unexpected/significant changes to after-school pickup.
- For early pickup, students will be called out of class once the parent arrives at Grand View. Please allow extra time when picking up your child. It takes a few minutes for the student to collect their belongings and make their way to the front office.
Thank you for helping us preserve our learning environment at Grand View Elementary!

These fees are now posted in Infinite Campus if you wish to pay online.
Thank you!
