Principal’s Letter

Dear Grand View Families,

As we step into March, there are a couple of important updates and reminders we’d like to share with you all.

1. CMAS State Testing in April for grades 3rd-5th: As we gear up for the end of the academic year, it’s essential to mark your calendars for the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) state testing, scheduled for April. This standardized testing is a crucial measure of our students’ progress and the effectiveness of our educational programs. More detailed information about specific testing dates and preparations will be provided in the coming weeks. Let’s support our students as they demonstrate their knowledge and skills!

2. Reminder: Hug n Go Lane– We kindly remind all parents and guardians to follow the rules of the designated Hug n Go lane during drop-off and pick-up times. This ensures a smooth flow of traffic, enhances safety, and minimizes frustrations for everyone involved. Your cooperation in adhering to this procedure is greatly appreciated, as it contributes to the overall efficiency and safety of our school environment.

The Specials Teachers invite all 3rd grade families to join us on March 5th for our Showcase Night! The showcase will include instrumental musical performances, a presentation of physical activity, and an artwork gallery walk.

Friday Food Bags

Grand View Elementary is partnering with a local volunteer network to provide “Friday Food Bags” for families in need.  Bags will be sent home each Friday with a variety of items such as: cereal, milk, juice, snacks, etc.  There is NO COST to participate in this program and all are welcome.   If you are interested in participating please complete the following Google Form.  For further questions you can contact Emily Pacheco (pacheco_emily@svvsd.org).

Student council is hosting Spirit Week March 11th – March 15th.  Families are welcome to participate in any and all spirit days.

Monday 3/11- Fancy Day – dress fancy for class photos

Tuesday 3/12- Inside Out Day – wear inside out and mismatched clothes

Wednesday 3/13 – Crazy Hair Day – wear a wacky hair do

Thursday 3/14 – Twin Day – come to school matching with a friend

Friday 3/15 – PJ & Stuffie Day – wear your comfy PJ’s and bring a stuffie (stuffie must fit in backpack)

CLASSROOM NEWS

PE – March Madness, am I right? After finishing their Hand ball units, the intermediate grade levels will be moving into Strategy development activities, and teamwork games. The main focus will be on sportsmanship basic through a multitude of different activities. For fifth grade students, we will also introduce what their field day will look like. Their field day date is set for May 2nd at Frederick High school (more information will be coming out through their classroom teachers). For the primary level will be working on tagging games in class. The emphasis will be on spatial awareness and chase and flee tactics. As we draw closer to the end of the school year, our field day date is tentatively set for Thursday May 16th (weather dependent). More information will be sent home in April. 

5th Grade –

You’re Invited to the GVE 5th Grade Injustice & Inequality Wax Museum

Please join us to learn about famous people who
showed courage in the face of injustice or inequality. Your
student has worked to prepare a biography, trifold board, and a speech to present.

When: Friday, March 8th, 2024
Location: GV Cafeteria

Two Sessions:

2:15-2:45 pm: Kalkhorst All & Ranweiler last Name P-Z only
3:00-3:30 pm: Lofton All & Ranweiler last Name A-O only

While most of the work was done here at school, please help your child
to find an outfit that would fit their character or time period. We are also
asking willing parents to buy one or two trifold boards this weekend. We
have some, but could use help getting enough for everyone. Please have
your child bring them Tuesday, February 20th.

Reminders for Families:

• Please remind your students they are not allowed to use electronic devices to call you during school hours. We would like them to come to the office to call parents, if necessary. This will help us to provide the right amount of support for your student. All cell phones need to be kept in their backpacks
• If at any time you need to get a hold of your student, please call the front office and we will contact your student during school hours.

Attendance Matters!!

We will be sending out monthly attendance letters to families with attendance concerns. This is to make you aware of your student’s absences. We know that attendance has a direct relationship with academic performance. Last year we had 102 students (26.09%) who were chronically absent from school. This means they missed 10 or more days of school. Regardless of days being marked excused or unexcused, they still count towards a student being chronically absent. Therefore, we need your help! We will be excusing up to 10 days of absence. After 10 days, all days will be unexcused unless you provide a doctor’s note, get approval from principal or if there is a family emergency (funeral, injury, etc.). Please schedule vacations during our school breaks and send students to school if they are not sick. School doors open at 8:50 am, and school starts promptly at 9:00 am. Please read Colorado’s state law addressing school attendance below. Thank you in advance for your help in increasing our school attendance!

The Colorado School Attendance Law of 1963 (CRS 22-33-101, et. Seq.) requires that every child between the ages of six (6) and seventeen (17) attend public school or an otherwise approved educational program.  A student that has four (4) unexcused absences in any one month or (10) unexcused absences in any school year is considered habitually truant.  The School District has a statutory obligation to refer cases of habitual truancy to the Juvenile Court of the 17th Judicial District.  In addition, the legislation encourages each board of education to establish attendance procedures for identifying students who are chronically absent (missing more than 10% of the instructional time) regardless of whether the absence is excused or unexcused.

Positive Behavior Support System (PBIS)

We are excited to continue with our Bison Boutique this year. Our students earn Bison Bucks when they follow the HERD expectations. Throughout the year, students save their Bison Bucks to buy items from the Bison Boutique. We are in need of volunteers to help with our store and preparation for PBIS. STUDENTS PERSONAL PROPERTY
Problems often arise when items are brought to school that are hazardous or interfere with school procedures and instruction.  Personal objects of value are to be brought to school only during special occasions when the teacher has given permission.  Playground equipment is provided by the school.  Toys and items such as stuffed animals, pokemon cards, skateboards, scooters, roller blades, radios, and other electronic devices are not permitted at school.  Cell phones and smartwatches are to be turned off and kept in backpacks during school hours.  The school will not be responsible for any loss or damage to personal property.

Hug-N-Go Lane

When dropping your students off in the Hug-N-Go Lane, we need families to pull through to the south end of the lane. This will help alleviate the traffic on Aggregate Blvd and help students get to school on time. Please have your students ready with backpacks and other belongings so they can just be dropped off. If you want to get out of the car and help your students, please park in the front parking lot and help them get ready. The HUG-N-GO Lane needs to be quick and easy for all families. Also, please pay attention to the cars trying to get out of the HUG-N-GO Lane so we can allow others to go through the lane. We appreciate your attention to this matter and continued support to keep our students and families safe.
